Measure from the ground to where the dog needs to step in, whether that's the trunk, cargo area, or back seat. Some narrower side doors may not have enough clearance for the 19.2-inch width, so check the door opening before ordering.
No. The steps are covered in carpet padding, not bare metal or plastic coating. Dogs get natural traction from the carpet texture, even with wet or muddy paws. The bottom of the stairs also has non-slip rubber pads to keep everything steady on pavement or garage floors.
