Measure the dog in their natural sleeping position and add 8 to 12 inches. The Medium (35 x 22 in) fits most dogs up to about 50 lbs. The Large (41 x 27 in) works for dogs up to about 75 lbs. The XL (44 x 32 in) handles dogs up to about 100 lbs. When in doubt, go one size up – dogs sleep better with room to stretch.
It's a medium-firm feel. The top layer is memory foam that conforms to the dog's body, and the base is egg-crate foam that keeps them from bottoming out. Supportive enough for a 90-pound dog but comfortable enough that small dogs won't feel like they're sleeping on a board.
Unzip the cover, pull out the foam insert, and machine wash the cover and bolster fabric on a gentle cycle with cold water. Tumble dry on low. The foam itself is not machine washable – spot clean only. Give the foam 24 to 48 hours to fully expand when first unboxed.
The sleep surface has a waterproof film between the flannel top and the base fabric, so accidents won't soak through to the foam. The bolster sides are faux linen and are not waterproof. For dogs with frequent accidents, placing a washable pad on top adds an extra layer of protection.
The memory foam distributes weight evenly across hips, shoulders, and elbows – the areas that take the most contact when a dog lies down. Senior dogs and larger breeds especially seem to settle in and stay put.
The egg-crate foam base prevents the kind of permanent compression that occurs in polyfill or low-density foam beds.
